Another of my finds in a rural Bangkok plant market on the very outskirts the city.
A Jasmine sambac which for me has the perfect marriage of form and scent and being well endowed with both in ample measure.
Very similar to Jasminum Maid of Orleans in habit being slightly more vigorous than either Grand Duke of Tuscany or Thai Beauty and having slightly larger leaves than these two plants.
The flowers are medium to large as sambac flowers go and are very rose or peony like in appearance. The flower keeps its symmetry from when it bursts open until days later when it falls and becomes progressively looser in the same manner as a rose.
My guess here is that Grand Duke of Tuscany has a hand in the parentage as Bangkok Peony has an above average numbers of petals which are quite tightly arranged and also has similar flower traits which makes the ‘Duke’ a prime suspect for Father of this beautiful form of Jasminum sambac!
