Home Jasmin Home Jasminum Officinale A Guide to the Species Jasminum grandiflorum Catalogue
Jasminum auriculatum
This species is another we have trialled having originally sourced material in Thailand. It is a most attractive and free flowering species with a tight bushy upright habit and ideally suited to container cultivation.

It also is surprisingly hardy and will tolerate -2c or -3c for short bursts as long as the old rules are followed (see cultivation of Jasmines).

This species is immediately recognisable because of its felty leaves and tight bunches of flowers.
It is similar in appearance to the lay gardener regarding its foliage to Jasminum molle but has a longer and freer flowering period and its petals are thinner and more numerous.

Scent wise it is a winner with a beautiful scent which we are convinced is stronger in the morning or evening. The scent does not have as deep ‘notes’ as J.sambacs but is just as powerful because it has some very intoxicating higher lighter ‘tones’ to it.

In the wild or a tropical/subtropical position it will reach 6-8 feet as a scandent shrub but lends itself easily to be trained as either a short bush or as a wall shrub. The rate of growth is slow to average.
